Zverev to compete in doubles with Alcaraz

Alexander Zverev is in for a challenge in the doubles on Friday. Germany’s top player will be playing alongside Carlos Alcaraz.

Germany’s top tennis player Alexander Zverev will start the Laver Cup in Berlin in a doubles match with Spanish superstar Carlos Alcaraz. The organizers announced this when they announced the schedule for the first day of competition on Friday.

Zverev and Alcaraz, who is taking part in the show tournament organized by Roger Federer for the first time, will face Americans Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz for Team Europe in the last match of the evening session, starting for the World selection. For Zverev, this will be a quick reunion with Fritz, who beat him in the third round at Wimbledon and in the US Open quarterfinals.

The opening match on Friday will be between Casper Ruud and Francisco Cerundolo. Stefanos Tsitsipas and Thanasi Kokkinakis, and Grigor Dimitrov and Alejandro Tabilo will face each other in the other singles.

A total of twelve matches will be played at the Laver Cup between now and Sunday: three singles and one doubles match each day. The matches are played as three-set matches, which are scored in the overall standings in stages depending on the day of the competition: one point for a win on Friday, two points for a win on Saturday and three points for a win on Sunday. A total of 13 points is needed for overall victory.
