At the WWE No Escape (Elimination Chamber) mega-show, Drew McIntyre and Becky Lynch secure prominent spots at the annual highlight WrestleMania.
Wrestling market leader WWE has set the next course for the annual highlight WrestleMania 40 in April in front of a mega backdrop in Australia.
At the huge No Escape (Elimination Chamber) event in front of over 50,000 fans, Becky Lynch and Drew McIntyre secured the remaining spots in the big title matches in the eponymous cage matches: Scotsman McIntyre now challenges World Champion Seth Rollins, Lynch the winner of the No Escape main event between local hero Rhea Ripley and Nia Jax for the World Women’s Title.
McIntyre defeated former WWE Champions Bobby Lashley, Kevin Owens and Randy Orton, shooting star LA Knight and wrestling influencer Logan Paul in the men’s No Escape match. Lynch defeated Bianca Belair, Liv Morgan, Naomi, Raquel Rodriguez and newly promoted top talent Tiffany Stratton – girlfriend of German WWE star Ludwig Kaiser – on the women’s side.
McIntyre ended up pinning veteran Orton to take the spot that was supposed to be for the injured CM Punk – the big win suggests McIntyre and WWE have reached an agreement on an extension to the “Scottish Warrior’s” expiring contract.
Lynch – winner of the first WrestleMania main event against Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair in 2019 – meanwhile heads for a clash of the generations against young phenom Ripley, whose home-match win over Jax is considered a certainty.
The anniversary edition of WWE’s most famous event takes place on April 6 and 7 at Philadelphia’s Super Bowl Stadium. Taking center stage is the title match between over 3 1/2 year reigning “Undisputed Universal Champion” Roman Reigns and crowd favorite Cody Rhodes – and the long-awaited ring comeback of megastar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
The Rock looks set to take on Rhodes and Rollins in a tag team match with Reigns on the first night of WrestleMania. In the fourth major title match of the two-day show, Royal Rumble winner Bayley challenges her former ally Iyo Sky for the WWE Women’s Title.
