Franz Wagner has agreed a multi-million dollar contract extension with the Orlando Magic. As ESPN and The Athletic both report, the contract runs for five years – and will earn the world champion a total of 224 million US dollars
Despite his young age, Franz Wagner is no longer an up-and-coming talent, rather the 22-year-old has long been a key player for the Orlando Magic – and that is paying off for the forward. The German is set to earn 224 million US dollars (around 207 million euros) with his new contract, but that’s not all.
The deal is said to have been finalized on Thursday by Wagner’s agent Jason Glushon, but it includes even more. The sum could even rise to as much as 269 million US dollars, the equivalent of 249 million euros. With his maximum possible rookie extension, Wagner is entitled to 30 percent of the team’s salary cap if he is selected for an All-NBA team.
Orlando had its best season since 2011-12 last season with a 47-35 record – and Wagner played a big part in that, averaging 19.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game – he also had seven games with 30 or more points. The Magic qualified for the playoffs, but were knocked out in the first round by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Franz Wagner – who came to Florida as the No. 8 pick – has been playing for the Magic for three years, where he joins his five-year older brother Moritz, who agreed to a new two-year contract worth 22 million US dollars a few days ago. Franz, however, has already set historic records, as he is the fourth player in the franchise after Shaquille O’Neal, Dwight Howard and Tracy McGrady to break the 4,000-point mark before his 23rd birthday.
The Wagner brothers, who sensationally became world champions with Germany in 2023, now have clarity with regard to their sporting future and can fully concentrate on the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.
