Women’s World Cup: FIFA Congress to decide on hosts

At a FIFA press conference, it was announced that the FIFA Congress, which represents all countries, will decide on the hosts of the Women’s World Cup.

The decision to determine the hosts of women’s football World Cups in future by the Congress of the world governing body FIFA is “long overdue”, says FIFA President Gianni Infantino. After all, it is “normal that the whole world decides who hosts the World Cup – for men and women”. Until now, the smaller FIFA Council had determined the organiser of the Women’s World Cup; in principle, all 211 FIFA members are entitled to vote in the Congress.

The decision also affects the DFB, which has applied for the 2027 World Cup together with the associations from Belgium and the Netherlands. The 2023 World Cup has already been awarded and will be held in Australia and New Zealand.
