Schalke 04 have loaned Can Bozdogan to FC Utrecht. The Dutch first division club also secured an option to buy
Bozdogan will start in the Dutch Eredivisie next season. FC Utrecht secured the services of the Cologne-born player for one season. FC Schalke 04 will receive a loan fee of 500,000 euros. At the end of the loan period, the Dutch also have an option to buy the player, which amounts to two million euros. Bozdogan is still contractually bound to the Knappen until 2024

We communicated this openly and transparently with him right from the start,” Schalke’s sporting director Rouven Schröder was quoted as saying in a statement from the Bundesliga promoted club. “That’s why the move to FC Utrecht makes sense for both sides: Can has better chances of playing time there and we were able to reduce our squad by one position. “
In Utrecht, the responsible persons are looking forward to a “talented left midfielder with a good shot”, as technical director Jordy Zuidam explains. Bozdogan is “a dynamic player who is very technical and also puts a lot of energy into his game. Bozdogan joined the Schalker U19s in the summer of 2019 from the A Juniors of 1. FC Köln. He made three Bundesliga appearances in the final game of the 2019/20 season and added 14 more Bundesliga appearances in the following season. After Schalke’s relegation to the 2nd division, the former DFB junior international was loaned to Besiktas Istanbul. There he played 27 competitive games, scoring one goal and providing one assist. He also won the Turkish Super Cup with the Black Eagles. He also played in the Champions League four times.
