Wimbledon without tennis star Nadal

Rafael Nadal will take part in the Olympic Games in Paris for the last time. He is skipping a tennis classic to do so

As expected, Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal (37) has decided not to take part in Wimbledon in preparation for his last Olympic Games. The 22-time Grand Slam tournament winner wants to continue training on clay and skip the grass court season in order to be as fit as possible for the Summer Games in Paris. “We think it’s best for my body not to change surfaces,” Nadal said.

At the Olympic tennis tournament in the Stade Roland Garros, where Nadal celebrated 14 French Open titles, the exceptional player intends to compete in singles and doubles with Carlos Alcaraz. The Olympic tennis competitions begin on July 27. The grass-court classic in Wimbledon will be held from July 1 to 14.

Nadal plans to start tournament in Sweden

After his first-round exit at the French Open against Alexander Zverev from Hamburg, Nadal, who has been plagued by injuries, had already hinted at his plans. The two-time Wimbledon winner said that he saw the grass season as “difficult”: “I don’t know if it would be so smart to switch to a completely different surface now after everything that has happened to my body and then return to clay.”

To prepare for the Olympic Games, Nadal wants to compete in Bastad, Sweden, from July 15 to 21, as he has now announced.

The Wimbledon tournament may also have to do without the Serbian record Grand Slam tournament winner Novak Djokovic. Djokovic injured the meniscus in his knee at the French Open and underwent surgery. He is also likely to miss the grass court classic
