“Will play a big role for us”: Man City present Savinho

Manchester City kept a low profile in the transfer market for a long time this summer, but now the Skyblues have signed their first new signing. Savinho arrives from French third division side and partner club Troyes

However, the 20-year-old did not play a single game for the club from Champagne. Troyes bought Savinho from his native Brazil in 2022, but then immediately loaned him out to PSV Eindhoven. Savinho struggled to find his feet there and even played mainly in PSV’s second team.

The following summer, Troyes loaned him to the Spanish LaLiga – where the Brazilian made his big breakthrough. Savinho, who is usually lively down the left wing, was part of FC Girona’s successful season, which ended in third place behind Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

An integral part of the Selecao

As an undisputed regular, Savinho played 37 games in Spain’s top flight, contributing nine goals and ten assists. Reason enough for Brazil national team coach Dorival Junior to give the 20-year-old his first international cap in March 2024, with six more games since then.

It is hard to imagine the Selecao without Savinho, which is why big clubs naturally became aware of the speedy Brazilian. Ultimately, Manchester City have now been awarded the contract – and that comes as no surprise, as ES Troyes AC, like Girona, is part of the City Group. “I am delighted to be able to work under Pep Guardiola. He is one of the best coaches in the world and I know that he can improve me even more,” Savinho is quoted as saying in the Skyblues’ statement.

One for the sky blue future

The latter, in the person of Director of Football Txiki Begiristain, are convinced that the youngster’s star will also shine in the Premier League: “What he has achieved in Girona is extraordinary. He will play a big role for Manchester City – this season and beyond”. This is another reason why the Citizens have given him a five-year contract until 2029.
