Without the suspended Draymond Green, the Golden State Warriors suffered their next defeat, while the Clippers continued their run. The Dallas Mavericks were beaten by the top team in the West, the Timberwolves, while Nikola Jokic grabbed the next record
The Golden State Warriors have lost their first game after Draymond Green’s indefinite suspension. They lost 113-121 to the Los Angeles Clippers led by basketball world champion Daniel Theis on Thursday evening (local time). Green had punched his opponent in the face two days earlier and had been suspended for the fourth time this year. The NBA then suspended the 34-year-old indefinitely. It was the Warriors’ third defeat in a row.
Meanwhile, the Clippers extended their winning streak to six successive victories and gained further ground on the top six in the Western Conference, which guarantees a secure play-off ticket. James Harden, who broke the milestone of 25,000 career points with 28 points and 15 assists, and Kawhi Leonard (27) led their team, with Norman Powell adding 21 points from the bench. Theis scored 4 points in 16 minutes. At the other end, Klay Thompson got back on track with 30 points (8/12 threes), while Stephen Curry was weak (17, 3/13 threes).
The Minnesota Timberwolves had previously beaten the Dallas Mavericks 119:101 and, like the Boston Celtics, now have 18 wins in 23 games. No team in the league has a better record. Luka Doncic recorded a strong 39 points and 13 assists for the Mavericks, but was unable to prevent the Texans from losing
Mavs run out of steam – record for Jokic
Dallas, which had previously won four games in a row, again went into the game without a replacement, having to do without Kyrie Irving and the injured Maxi Kleber, among others. Thanks to Doncic, the Texans nevertheless kept up well for three quarters, but the Mavs ran out of steam in the final period (19:32).
Meanwhile, Boston beat the Cleveland Cavaliers again (116:107) to remain unbeaten in its twelfth home game. Jayson Tatum (27, 11 rebounds) and Jaylen Brown (22) successfully kept the Cavs at bay in the fourth quarter. The champions from Denver had no trouble whatsoever against the Brooklyn Nets, pulling away by double digits in the second quarter and then never letting the tension build again. Nikola Jokic collected his tenth triple-double of the season (26, 15 rebounds, 10 assists) and thus set a record: The Serbian is the first player in NBA history to post at least ten triple-doubles in each of seven consecutive seasons.
