Virtual master prediction: NBA 2K25 sees Celtics as future champions

If it were up to NBA 2K25, the Boston Celtics would defend their championship title. The star ensemble around Jayson Tatum has already underpinned these ambitions at the start of the new season.

From 1959 to 1966, the Boston Celtics were the measure of all things in the NBA. They won eight of their now 18 titles during this time – a series that remains unparalleled to this day. After almost sixteen years without a championship trophy, the Celtics were able to lift the trophy again last season under coach Joe Mazzulla. A milestone, because this means that Boston is currently the sole record winner again.

The start of a new series? At least the team is defending its title – if it’s up to NBA 2K25. 2K Games’ basketball simulation game predicted that the team would defend its title. However, the publisher left open the question of how many games the reigning champions would need to do so. The information was more specific when it came to the Conference Finals: according to the simulation, Boston beat the New York Knicks 4-2 games. The Oklahoma City Thunder followed them into the final after beating the Dallas Mavericks 4-3. The MVP of the season in the simulation was Luka Doncic.

Boston beat the Knicks in the opener

On the real court, the Boston Celtics have underpinned their ambitions and those of the NBA 2K25 prophecy. The star ensemble around Jayson Tatum defeated the New York Knicks 132:109 in the season opener. Tatum, in particular, impressed with 37 points and ten assists. Since the Knickerbockers are also considered strong by the American experts, Boston’s opening success can certainly be seen as a statement.

In addition, the reigning champions missed a record in a bizarre way. Al Horford’s successful three-point shot marked the 29th hit from outside the line in a game. Boston still had almost nine minutes left to break the Milwaukee Bucks’ record from the 20/21 season. But another shot for three points did not go through the net.
