The bad news for SpVgg Greuther Fürth continues. The Dutchman Nick Viergever is the next central defender to leave the promoted club.
The TV pictures immediately suggested a serious injury. But after the duel with Freiburg’s Schade, who had unfortunately kicked Nick Viergever on the ankle, the Dutchman had actually come back into the game. But a few minutes later, nothing worked. It is now clear that Viergever will miss Fürth for weeks, the defender has suffered a serious ligament injury, the syndesmosis is not said to be affected, but several ligaments are.
Leitl is running out of central defenders
The next setback for the promoted team, which is slowly running out of central defenders. In addition to Gideon Jung (cruciate ligament rupture) and Justin Hoogma (knee ligament injury), coach Stefan Leitl recently had to do without Maximilian Bauer. The U-21 international is presumably one of the five players suffering from Corona who left the Spielvereinigung before the match in Freiburg (1:3).
Whether one or the other of these five, which are also said to include Jeremy Dudziak, Sascha Burchert, Nils Seufert and Dickson Abiama, can be cleared in the course of the week is anyone’s guess. According to reports, their tests have been positive so far. Although the cloverleaves have a little longer due to Sunday’s late game against Frankfurt, it remains to be seen whether even a candidate who has been cleared will be able to help after more than a week without training.
Meyerhöfer likely to be fit again against Frankfurt
After all, Marco Meyerhöfer, who had recently caught a cold, returned to training on Tuesday and should therefore be fit to play against Eintracht. At least this is a small ray of hope for the shorthanded Fürth team.
