F1 action heads to the German Grand Prix in Hockenheim with Sebastian Vettel hoping that the support from his home fans will help him acheive a victory that will put him even further ahead of Lewis Hamilton in the drivers’ championship.
The British Grand Prix was all set up for a Hamilton victory on home soil but Vettel had other plans, stretching his lead to eight points. Now he will be focused on increasing that by even more points in the German Grand Prix.
Great memories for Fernando Alonso
The Hockenheim circuit is far from an easy one but one that Fernando Alonso has great memories of. He recently commented: “I enjoy racing at Hockenheim and have won three times so it’s great to be back after a break last year.”
The drivers will be looking forward to the overtaking opportunities and the extra DRS zone that has been added for this year. It should bring some extra excitement to the track.
The competition is heating up
The competition between Vettel and Hamilton is ensuring that this F1 drivers’ championship is a hotly contested one this season and the Constructor Standings are also very close between Ferrari and Mercedes with just 20 points currently between them.
Toto Wolff unhappy with Mercedes season
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has voiced his unhappiness at the Mercedes performances this season, stating “We’ve left points on the table and had to damage limitation more than we wanted.” The double retirement in Austria was a particularly painful day for the Mercedes team. However, Wolff found consolation in the fact that they had the quickest car in the triple-header races.
Can Vettel be victorious in his home country or will Hamilton bounce back from the disappointment of the British Grand Prix? We will find out soon!
