VBLCC: Elversberg’s madhouse – sensation follows rule-breaking

SV Elversberg is also becoming a virtual scare for the favorites: The Saarland team pulled off a major coup in the VBL Club Championship. Yet the three-match day got off to the worst possible start

Almost four months after Elversberg’s premiere in the Bundesliga 2, the club reached a new milestone: After having no games at the weekend, SVE made their debut in the Virtual Bundesliga Club Championship (VBLCC) on Wednesday. And their opponents were none other than FC Bayern. Record champions on the real pitch, Munich are just as new to EA SPORTS FC 24 as Elversberg. However, only one of the two clubs made a rookie mistake.

After a 3:3 in the doubles and a 1:2 in the first singles, the “Elv” needed a win in game three to salvage a point in their VBLCC premiere. However, the match was interrupted just 50 seconds after the kick-off. What initially appeared to be a technical problem turned out to be an investigation by the referees. They had identified an infringement by Elversberg professional Mazlum ‘Maazlum_’ Dogan.

The eSportsman had Jamal Musiala’s Centurions card in the starting eleven of his FUT team. Opponent Thomas Ostermaier also fielded the FCB jewel – but as one of the club’s two VBL power items. According to the rules, this prohibits the generic club from fielding any of Musiala’s items. After a brief discussion behind the VBLCC scenes, the decision was made: The second singles match was scored 3-0 in favor of Bayern at the green table.

VBL presenter Tim ‘Latka’ Schwartmann and expert Timo ‘TimoX’ Siep agreed: “Actually, that shouldn’t happen.” The Bochum native, who joined the livestream after his appearance in the North-West Division the day before, added. “You know about the rule. And that Bayern is one of the few teams that has a player as a 99 power item that almost everyone plays: Musiala. Everyone knows that,” said ‘TimoX’.

Insane turnaround against the top favorites

Thus, the first Elversberg encounter in VBLCC history was also the first defeat. Things only got a little better after that: Although the duel with SC Freiburg was brought to a sporting conclusion, the result remained the same. The SVE lost to the Breisgauers on aggregate by 2:5, 1:0 and 2:3. RB Leipzig awaited at the end of the three-match day. The top favorites, defending champions and treble winners

The Saarland side’s already memorable VBLCC debut took a crazy turn. ‘Maazlum_’ and Marius ‘DerKaiserFIFA’ Kaiser were on top form in the doubles. Together they defeated Anders Vejrgang and Levy Finn ‘levyfinn’ Rieck 2:1. But the highlight was yet to come.

Because in the singles match between ‘DerKaiserFIFA’ and ‘levyfinn’, the madness took its course. The spectacular match ended with a 7:3 victory for the Elversberg player. The newcomers had beaten the dominator of recent years 9:4, needing just two games in the process and clinching their first three-pointer in the VBLCC. The sensational triumph helped the virtual “Elv” to 14th place in the table – with one match fewer than most of their rivals in the South-East Division.

Defending champions not dominant without ‘RBLZ_Umut’

With the RBLZ from Leipzig, the end of Wednesday was consequently unsuccessful. Even before that, however, things had been anything but ideal: Without the newly crowned eFootballer of the Year 2023 Umut ‘RBLZ_Umut’ Gültekin, there was a lot of sand in the gears. In the 2vs2 against SpVgg Greuther Fürth, ‘RBLZ_Vejrgang’ and ‘levyfinn’ conceded a heavy 0:4 defeat. Thanks to strong individual performances, however, they turned the match around

RB were also unable to win against VfB Stuttgart in the doubles, the match ended 3:3. Without ‘RBLZ_Umut’, the Leipzig team simply could not find their usual superiority. Vejrgang then also fluffed in the 1vs1 against the German singles champion Antonio Radelja (1:2). Rieck ensured that the points were shared in the third game by clearly putting Deniel ‘Denii10’ Mutic in his place with a 5:1 win

Mainz with a perfect record – and the goal of the day

With seven points from the first four matchdays, the RBLZ are currently in third place. However, they are already five points behind south-east leaders Mainz. FSV have yet to lose a game – a unique achievement across all divisions.

Ditmir ‘Ditmir_4897’ Alimi and Max Julius ‘Diviners’ Gröne have played almost flawlessly so far. They made short work of Karlsruher SC (3:0, 5:2) at the start of the triple game day. The Mainz duo had to go the full distance against TSG Hoffenheim (1:1, 2:1, 3:2) and SV Wehen Wiesbaden (4:1, 4:4, 3:2) – but were still victorious in the end.

In addition to the strong numbers, the Nullfünfer were also able to impress aesthetically. In the 2vs2 against KSC, ‘Ditmir_4897’ and ‘Diviners’ scored the goal of the day. In the 73rd in-game minute, a cross from the right found Nelson Weiper’s VBL power item. Instead of accepting the challenging pass, the character converted directly with a bicycle kick over the inside of the post to make it 3:0.

“It wasn’t rehearsed,” admitted Alimi in the VBL live stream. “I saw that I couldn’t get there any other way. Then I just put in the overhead kick – and scored with green timing.” You can find all the results and the VBLCC tables in our matchday overview
