Valencia FC confirm Rafa Mir’s arrest

Rafa Mir was arrested on Monday evening and, according to Spanish media reports, has been charged with sexual assault. The 27-year-old is currently on loan from Sevilla FC to Valencia FC

Rafa Mir has been arrested for an alleged sexual assault on two women in the player’s private home. Another man is said to have been involved and is also in custody.

The women pressed charges after they had to be treated in hospital, as initially reported by Cadena Ser and since confirmed by Marca. Rafa Mir is to be brought before a judge on Wednesday. The incident is said to have taken place in the early hours of Saturday morning when Rafa Mir was hosting a private party at his home.

Valencia FC has since issued an official statement. “Regarding the press reports about the arrest of Valencia FC player Rafa Mir, the club is aware of the arrest and, in the absence of details, can only state that it will cooperate in any way that justice may require,” it said.

The Murcia-born attacker was trained at Valencia FC in the youth ranks and moved to England in 2018 to join Wolverhampton Wanderers. After several loan deals, he ended up at Sevilla FC in August 2021 for a transfer fee of €16 million. At the 2021 Olympic Games, he played six games for Spain (three goals) and won the silver medal with the Iberians.

Valencia had worked on bringing him back several times and finally loaned him from Sevilla this summer, with the club also securing an option to buy. Rafa Mir has started three of Valencia’s four league games so far
