Serena Williams wants to help build an entirely new team – the first of its kind in the WNBA.
Serena Williams is joining Toronto Tempo as a co-owner. The basketball team, which is currently being established, is scheduled to compete in the WNBA from 2026.
“I’ve always said that women’s sports are an incredible investment opportunity,” said the long-standing tennis superstar: ‘This moment is not just about basketball. It’s about highlighting the true value and potential of female athletes.’
Tempo is set to become the first Canadian team in the WNBA.
This is not the first time Williams has invested in women’s sports. The American, who won 23 Grand Slam titles, also holds shares in the women’s soccer team Angel City FC and the NFL team Miami Dolphins.
