Until 2028: NBC secures Premier League rights

The financial supremacy of the Premier League continues to strengthen. On Thursday, the New York Times reported that NBC secured the US broadcast rights to England’s top division until 2028 – for $2.7 billion

This continues the cooperation between the Premier League and the American TV company for another seven years. NBC has already been showing the Premier League matches since 2013, but only paid 1.1 billion dollars during the last contract period. The new deal is now more than double that amount, making it the most financially powerful TV contract ever signed in the US with a foreign football league.

Premier League ahead of Primera Division

This means that the English elite league is once again overtaking the Primera Division. In May, the Primera Division awarded the TV rights to the domestic league for the next eight years to ESPN and negotiated 1.4 billion dollars for them. The Spanish premier league will receive approximately 175 million dollars per year, while the Premier League will now enjoy a whopping 450 million per season and consolidate its status as the most important overseas league in the USA.

Federal League

The Bundesliga, meanwhile, plays only a minor role in the United States. While the DFL has an ongoing six-season deal with Disney’s sports broadcaster ESPN+, it receives only 35 million per season – not even a tenth of the sums that will now flow to England each year until 2028.
