The Bayern basketball team continued their upward trend in the Euroleague against Alba Berlin. They won the German duel on Friday evening with 62:56 and thus remain on course for the play-offs in the European top division.
With a record of eleven wins and eleven losses, Bayern currently occupy eighth place, which would ultimately entitle them to participate in the play-offs. Alba, on the other hand, who conceded their fifth defeat in a row after a more than two-week forced break from Corona, have poor prospects.
In a game characterised by two strong defences, the two top German teams gave each other nothing from the start. At the beginning of the third quarter, the Berliners went on a 14:1 run to gain a double-digit lead. Especially national player Maodo Lo (13 points in total) was convincing in this phase.
But the Bavarians fought their way back into the game and took the lead again at the beginning of the final quarter. In the end, it was once again Vladimir Lucic (19 points) who provided the decisive Bayern points. “What an ugly game,” said Bayern coach Andrea Trinchieri, “but we have learned to win ugly games.” It had looked as if both teams had faced each other “in the mud”.
Tickets were sold for the first time this year thanks to the Bavarian government’s decision to allow fans in the arena. 1346 visitors came to the prestige duel in the Audi Dome.
