UEFA has imposed a partial spectator exclusion on 1. FC Union Berlin following incidents at their home match against Maccabi Haifa – and obliged them to hang up a banner.
1. FC Union Berlin will not be allowed to occupy two areas in Berlin’s Olympiastadion with fans against Feyenoord Rotterdam on Thursday
Following the anti-Semitic incidents at the 3-0 win over Maccabi Haifa on 30 September, UEFA has now ruled that blocks 13 and 14 – “where the home fans sit” – must remain closed in the upcoming Europa Conference League home match. Instead, a large banner with the words “NoToRacism” and a UEFA logo must be hung in these areas.
According to eyewitnesses and those concerned, Union supporters had insulted and attacked fans of the Israeli club in an anti-Semitic manner against Maccabi Haifa. The Bundesliga club and the registered Union fan clubs had distanced themselves from the incidents and apologised. The club accepted the verdict.
