The Toronto Raptors have acquired Brandon Ingram via trade. The former All-Star comes from the New Orleans Pelicans.
According to Shams Charania (ESPN), Bruce Brown Jr. and Kelly Olynyk are moving to the Pelicans in return, who are also receiving a first-round pick and another second-rounder. The first-round pick is said to be an Indiana Pacers pick for 2026, which is protected for the top four.
In addition to the Raptors, the Atlanta Hawks were also reportedly interested in Ingram, whose contract expires this summer. It is expected that the 27-year-old will sooner or later agree to a new contract with the Canadians. The forward is expected to form the core of the team alongside Scottie Barnes, R.J. Barrett and Immanuel Quickley.
Ingram could currently sign a three-year, $144 million extension, but significantly more would be possible in the summer. This season, Ingram is still earning $36 million, rising to $37 million.
Ingram only played 18 games this season due to injuries, in which he averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.2 assists.
The Pelicans will receive Brown’s expiring contract (23 million) and Olynyk, who still has a contract until 2026. It is possible that Brown will be passed on again, as he could be interesting for potential playoff teams.
This was the second trade the Pelicans have made in 24 hours. New Orleans had previously parted ways with Daniel Theis. The German international was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
