HomeFootballTitz: "It was hard to foresee that it would go like this"

Titz: “It was hard to foresee that it would go like this”

Ahead of 1. FC Magdeburg’s make-up game against FSV Zwickau, FCM coach Christian Titz spoke about the strengths of the upcoming opponent as well as his team’s current situation. With a win, the league leaders could pull well clear of the competition.

While FCM and Zwickau are separated by twelve places in the table, the teams have one thing in common: Both teams have only suffered four defeats this season, and no team has lost less often.

That is also why Magdeburg coach Titz had respect for the upcoming opponent at the press conference before the duel with FSV. “They are a very compact team, they are very disciplined at the back. Zwickau never give up and are always good for a late goal,” said the 50-year-old.  “They call on their strengths and play it disciplined and, above all, consistent in tackling. They have also become very counter-attacking with their quick wingers. “

Current form strength “difficult to predict “

Currently, Magdeburg are five points ahead of second-placed Eintracht from Braunschweig, so with a win in Wednesday’s make-up game  they could distance the competition to eight points. A good starting position, especially because not everyone would have believed Magdeburg’s current dominance of the league before the season. Asked about his own strength of form, the coach was pleased, but did not want to ascribe too much importance to the current situation: “It was hard to foresee that everything would go the way it has so far,” said Titz. “So far we have scored well. But we don’t want to stay there, we now have our eyes on the next game.”

After the duel against Zwickau, a direct competitor awaits next weekend, with the FCM hosting third-placed Mannheim. They are currently six points ahead of Waldhof, and with two wins from the next two games, Magdeburg could extend their lead over this rival to twelve points.
