“Then maybe you’ll make it”: Cristiano Ronaldo scolds the English press

Cristiano Ronaldo has apparently been very annoyed with various stories in the English gazettes these days – and briefly blasted it out on Instagram. The 37-year-old has since deleted the post again. The whole thing is also reminiscent of last year.

What is Cristiano Ronaldo doing in the new season? Will the Portuguese goal star continue to play for Manchester United and thus Europa League or will he go to another club just one year after his Red Devils return? These questions have been circling around the 37-year-old striker for weeks, who according to media reports wants to continue playing top flight football in the autumn of his career and switch because of it.

According to board boss Oliver Kahn, one thing is already clear: CR7 will not be joining FC Bayern Munich this summer. The refusal has been given.

But what does the 2016 European champion really want? Basically, only he himself can answer that, which has not yet been done. So rumours will continue, especially as Cristiano Ronaldo recently did not take part in ManUnited’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia and only returned to Manchester at the beginning of the week – officially “due to family reasons”.

New coach Erik ten Hag also recently omitted the powerful header from his squad for a test match in Oslo against Atletico Madrid, but has since stressed that the coach, who arrived from Ajax Amsterdam, is certainly planning to use CR7.

CR7: “People’s attention only with lies “

Meanwhile, what has Cristiano Ronaldo himself planned? A broadside against the English press. The professional, who returned to Manchester from Juventus only last year, vented his anger about the many reports on the island surrounding his person in a comment on a Ronaldo fan page on Instagram. A short time later, however, the post was no longer to be found.

However, the comment did have merit. “It’s impossible for a day to go by without people talking about me,” CR7 said. “Otherwise, after all, the press don’t make money. They know they can only get people’s attention with lies. Keep it up and maybe you’ll manage to be right with a news story one day.” But what exactly the athlete was referring to – whether single or many published stories and rumours in the English media – has been impossible to discern. Piquantly, Cristiano Ronaldo posted the comment under a post that had said ManUnited would not let his superstar go.

The goal-scorer’s text is reminiscent of last year, when he was also upset about press reports hinting at a move away from Juve – only to switch to his old employer Manchester United a short time later. Will it happen again? According to “The Athletic”, a return to his training club Sporting Lisbon, who are in the CL, is also currently being discussed. A deal, however, would be an enormous financial effort. In addition, head coach Ruben Amorim is said to have reservations about it.
