Despite a season record from Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Milwaukee Bucks have been beaten by the Indiana Pacers in the NBA. The Greek scored 54 points on Thursday (local time), but the Bucks lost 124:126 (60:66) on the road. The 2021 champions suffered their third defeat in the eighth game of the season.
Antetokounmpo fell just one point short of his personal record from the previous season. However, the two-time MVP also conceded a total of eight turnovers against the Pacers, two of them in the contested final minute alone
First game of the season for Theis
The Bucks were still leading by ten points midway through the final period, but the Pacers managed the comeback, spurred on by US international Tyrese Haliburton. Haliburton hit a three-pointer with 89 seconds remaining to give the Pacers a 122:121 lead.
German international and world champion Daniel Theis made his first appearance of the season for the hosts in the ninth game – albeit only for eight minutes, in which Theis scored two points. Despite his strong showing at the World Cup, the center had previously been left on the bench without making an appearance, having only collected minutes in one pre-season game
Franz Wagner takes a late lead, but it’s not enough
Franz and Moritz Wagner were in action with the Orlando Magic in Mexico City on Thursday (local time), but the world champion brothers suffered a 119:120 (69:73) defeat against the Atlanta Hawks. Franz Wagner had put the Magic 119:117 in front with 42 seconds remaining, but Atlanta’s Dejounte Murray hit the decisive three-pointer to win the game.
Orlando thus suffered its fourth defeat in the eighth game of the season. Franz Wagner finished with twelve points and seven rebounds, while Moritz Wagner scored 13 points
