Tennis star ends up in emergency room

Eugenie Bouchard suffers eye injury during pickleball training that requires treatment in the emergency room.

Former Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard was injured when a plastic ball hit her in the eye during a pickleball training session. The former Wimbledon finalist had to be treated in the emergency room of a hospital.

In pictures she posted on Instagram, she can be seen wearing an eye patch.

“Got hit in the eye by a pickleball during training today. I was in the emergency room and have a scratch on my cornea. What we don’t do for this sport!” Bouchard wrote on Instagram.

Despite the alarming circumstances, the former tennis prodigy reassured her fans, stating that she expects a quick recovery and will be back to full fitness “in a few days”. Bouchard has recently been focusing on pickleball, an American sport that combines elements of tennis, table tennis and badminton.

But she won’t stay away from tennis completely. “I will schedule tennis tournaments if I can fit them into my schedule. Tennis is what I love and what I want to continue doing. The pickleball program takes precedence, but I want to continue competing in tennis tournaments,” said the former world number five.
