Noma Noha Akugue fails to spring a surprise against last year’s French Open finalist at the WTA tournament in Palermo after a good start

The 20-year-old tennis player Noma Noha Akugue (Reinbek) has missed out on a surprise at the WTA tournament in Palermo. After a good start, the left-hander lost her round of 16 match against the Czech number two seed Karolina Muchova 7:6 (7:0), 2:6, 3:6.

Noha Akugue was thus unable to maintain her good form from the first round match against her 14 years older compatriot Mona Barthel (Neumünster).

Muchova, a French Open finalist in 2023, will now face the winner of the Australian duel between Astra Sharma and Ajla Tomljanovic in the quarter-finals of the €244,201 clay court tournament
