Tchouameni is the wild card: Real win on Gran Canaria

Real Madrid secured their fifth league win in a row. Away at UD Las Palmas, the madridistas came back from a goal down to turn the game around

Real Madrid made the trip to Gran Canaria without Bellingham, who was suspended. In addition to the Englishman, Mendy, Fede Valverde, Tchouameni and goalkeeper Kepa were also missing from the starting XI (all on the bench). Lunin in goal, Fran Garcia, Dani Ceballos, Camavinga and Brahim Diaz were all new to the side that beat UD Almeria 3-2 late on.

UD Las Palmas have been strong so far this season, winning their last two games without conceding a goal. Against Real Madrid, coach Francisco Garcia Pimienta’s team got off to an energetic start and created the first chances. Moleiro’s shot at the start was just blocked (3rd).

Rodrygo then had a great chance, but missed it and was denied by Valles, who reacted well in the home side’s goal (4). Real then came closer, mainly through set pieces, but the game remained evenly poised (Las Palmas had 53% possession in the first half).

There were no major chances at first, but towards the end of the first half both teams came closer to the opponent’s goal: Cardona shot just over the goal for Las Palmas (34′), while Rodrygo and the strong Vinicius Junior harmonized at the other end. However, a goal was not to be scored in the first 45 minutes

Javi Munoz puts Las Palmas ahead – Real turn the game around

After the break, the strong promoted side got off to the better start. First Munir had a good chance, but Lunin saved (47′). Shortly afterwards, the home side were then able to celebrate: A quick attack down the right flank initially went through Sandro, who beat Rüdiger in a duel. Javi Munoz converted his cross to make it 1:0 (53′).

Real’s reply was not long in coming: Carvajal’s supposed goal was disallowed for offside (57′), but there was nothing wrong with Vinicius Junior’s goal a few minutes later: Strongly set up by Camavinga, the Brazilian scored into the right corner (65′).

Tchouameni scores the winner

Las Palmas came up with little after that, but Real played to win. The madridistas were rewarded by Tchouameni, who headed home from Kroos’ corner (84′) to secure their fifth league win in a row and take a temporary lead at the top of the table

Las Palmas will host Granada FC next Saturday (4.15pm). Real Madrid already have a catch-up game at FC Getafe on Thursday (9pm).
