The newly crowned champions from Boston are working hard on their squad for the coming years. Now the Celtics have taken a very important step, as top man Jayson Tatum has signed a new record contract
Jayson Tatum recently fulfilled his dream and became NBA champion for the first time with the Boston Celtics. The Celtics’ number 0 has also silenced all critics. There had been repeated voices saying that the 26-year-old was not capable of leading a team to the championship. Fiddlesticks!
Tatum feels very much at home in Boston – and he has now backed that up. According to ESPN and Shams Charania of The Athletic, the 26-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Celtics for 314 million US dollars. This contract also includes a player option and a trade. The latter refers to the percentage of a player’s salary that is granted as a bonus in the event of a trade. The contract is the largest signed in the NBA to date.
Tatum was drafted third overall by the Celtics in 2017. He has played for the Celtics ever since and has continued to develop. He currently leads Boston as the best player, but has a congenial partner at his side in Jaylen Brown. In addition to Tatum, Boston also extended Derrick White’s contract on Monday, this one for four years.
Final win against the Mavericks
In his NBA career, Tatum, a five-time All-Star, has averaged 23.1 points, 3.5 assists and 7.2 rebounds. The 26-year-old has already scratched the surface with the Celtics in recent years and this year he won his 18th NBA title with Boston. The Celtics beat the Dallas Mavericks 4:1 in the final.
