SV Wehen Wiesbaden won the first edition of the DFB 3. Liga-eMeisterschaft on Friday evening. The Hessians won the final against Viktoria Berlin.
Nominally, SV Wehen Wiesbaden fielded the most prominent squad of all 13 third-division clubs that tried their hand at the premiere of the 3. Liga eMeisterschaft. With professional footballer Sascha ‘Mocki’ Mockenhaupt and content creator Ebru ‘Ebru’ Önal, the Hessians had well-known names from the FIFA scene listed in the official squad.
However, another duo was responsible for the sporting success on the virtual pitch: Adrian ‘Bojafux’ Gisik and Fabiano ‘Epixal7’ Loos. The latter had even recently qualified for the VBL Grand Final in June via the play-offs. Mockenhaupt acted as team coach for SVWW, ‘Ebru’ commented on the action on Twitch.
Third in group to reach quarter-finals
Mocki’ also liked to be called sports director, after all he had put together the successful double. The latter, in turn, had a somewhat more difficult time in the group phase on Thursday: they only managed draws against FSV Zwickau (4:4), Viktoria Köln (6:6) and Eintracht Braunschweig (6:6).
However, the eighth-placed team in the 3rd division did not suffer a defeat either. Thanks to victories against Würzburg (5:2) and SV Waldhof Mannheim (7:1), the team finished in third place and entered the knockout phase on Friday. The first opponent in the quarter-finals was SV Meppen.
SVWW duo defies bitter 0:8 defeat
By winning two close games 5:4 and 6:5, ‘Bojafux’ and ‘Epixal7’ advanced to the semi-finals against Sportclub Verl. The East Westphalians represent a stubborn opponent: The 6:5 at the start was followed by a crashing 0:8, which made a third deciding game necessary. However, ‘Bojafux’ and ‘Epixal7’ held their nerve.
After the defeat, Gisik and Loos got back on their feet. The Verl duo of Niklas ‘NiklasRank’ Rank and Onur ‘Onur_38P’ Polat were unable to build on this gala performance, instead ‘Bojafux’ and ‘Epixal7’ secured the next narrow victory – the 3:2 meant entry into the final.
Mocki wishes for “more events like this “
At the end of the first 3. Liga eMeisterschaft, Wehen Wiesbaden faced Viktoria Berlin. The capitals sent Bastian ‘Bxstip7’ Puskas and the Austrian FIFA individual champion Ajdin ‘Eyedin98′ Islamovic into the race.
Bojafux’ and ‘Epixal7’ got off to a dream start, winning the first match 9:3, but the man with the footballing surname and the eBundesliga champion did not quite get going at Verl. That didn’t change in the second game either, the 4:3 sealed SVWW’s title win.
“We are champions,” Mockenhaupt tweeted – coupled with a request for “more events like this”. ‘Bojafux’ and ‘Epixal7’ secured Wehen Wiesbaden prize money of 1,500 euros, final opponents Viktoria Berlin received another 500 euros. The rest of the field will have to hope monetarily for a second edition of the 3rd Liga eChampionship.
