Despite the current personnel problems due to several corona-related absences, FC Bayern München continues to prepare for the start of the second half of the season. However, one national team player was absent on Wednesday morning.
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann welcomed only ten players to the first session on Wednesday morning. The keepers were joined by Sven Ullreich and Christian Früchtl as well as the regular U-19 goalkeeper Johannes Schenk.
Niklas Süle, however, was missing from the non-public session. The national defender was present at Säbener Straße earlier in the morning and also took part in the mandatory Corona test. However, Süle left again afterwards; FC Bayern did not give a reason for this. Joshua Kimmich, on the other hand, was able to take part in team training on Wednesday in cold, wet weather without any problems. The international, who was absent before Christmas due to a COVID-19 infection and subsequent lung problems, should make his comeback for the start of the second half of the season.
Eight Corona cases among Bayern pros
For this one, FC Bayern welcomes Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday evening . It is not yet clear who Nagelsmann can count on then. In the last few days, the record champion had to lament no less than eight Corona cases in his squad. Should FC Bayern “not have at least 16 licence players eligible to play and/or amateurs/contract players eligible to play in the licence team”, the club can apply to the DFL to postpone the match.
