Slight all-clear: Coman will miss Bayern’s last first-round match

Kingsley Coman (25) had to be substituted early in Bayern’s 5-0 win in Stuttgart. The diagnosis is now in.

Not even half an hour had been played in Stuttgart on Tuesday evening when Kingsley Coman grabbed his thigh after a running duel with Konstantinos Mavropanos and sat on the ground.

Bayern’s long-suffering attacking player, who has only made ten Bundesliga appearances this season due in part to heart surgery, apparently realised immediately that things were going nowhere for him. Leroy Sané came into the game and promptly set up Serge Gnabry’s first goal.

“We don’t know yet what he has,” coach Julian Nagelsmann had said about Coman after the 5-0 win. “It’s a muscular issue. We hope it’s not too bad.”

It’s not too bad either, but a diagnosed muscle fibre tear at least ensures the Frenchman will miss the first-round finale against Wolfsburg on Friday. After a three-week winter break, the record champions open the second half of the season at home against Gladbach.
