Title contender Carlos Alcaraz has given the all-clear after a scary moment before the start of the US Open. The 21-year-old Spaniard twisted his ankle during training on Saturday and ended the session early.
“It was a precautionary measure. I didn’t feel well enough to continue,” reported Alcaraz a few hours later. He was upset because he was unable to continue training, but was not worried about his participation in the Grand Slam tournament in New York. He wants to complete a full training session at 100 percent again on Sunday.
The world number three has already won the French Open and Wimbledon this year. He recently lost the gold medal final at the Olympics against the Serb Novak Djokovic. At the US Open, the 2022 winner will face Australian Li Tu in the first round on Tuesday evening (local time)
