Rose on red card: “Then something is wrong in football”

Borussia Dortmund is under pressure after its second defeat against Ajax Amsterdam in the Champions League. Marco Rose was particularly annoyed by a match-deciding scene afterwards.

Due to a 1:3 against Ajax BVB slipped to third place in Champions League Group C on Wednesday. But much more than the defeat, the protagonists were initially upset by the unjustified red card for Mats Hummels in the 29th minute, which the English referee Michael Oliver did not withdraw even after consulting the video assistant.

Rose lacked any understanding for the excessive decision. “I mean, this is such an experienced referee,” the Dortmund coach put on the DAZN microphone and waved off specifically with regard to the video assistant: “If people decide from there that you can really give the card like that – then I’m sorry. Then there’s something wrong in football. “

Of course, Rose’s anger was not yet extinguished at the subsequent press conference. Especially because his team had been “well in the game” for the first 25 minutes and allowed “little to nothing”. But then the referee intervened decisively in the game. “60 minutes of being outplayed against Ajax Amsterdam, that’s a lot of wood,” Rose admitted, adding: “Overall, I can’t reproach my team.”

When asked again specifically about the red card by a journalist, Rose asked a counter question: “Is there anyone in the room who says it can be a red card?” He himself would even have found a red card justifiable “if you don’t have the opportunity to look at the pictures again”. As it is, however, Oliver’s wrong decision and, above all, the missed chance to correct it, are incomprehensible.

Like unlucky Hummels, Rose couldn’t resist a comment in the direction of the fouled Antony, who mimed the “dying swan” after the tackle. The Brazilian had made “cinema”: “As if someone had driven completely into his legs. “

With Wolf, the third left-back is now missing

To make matters worse, meanwhile, Rose has a new absentee to lament. With Marius Wolf suffering a muscle injury, the Dortmund football coach lost his third left-back. “We have to get through this,” Rose said with a fighting spirit, also with a view to the top match in Leipzig on Saturday. He does not believe that his team will be affected by the bitter defeat. BVB can already underline this thesis at the weekend.
