Wayne Rooney Agreeing 10 million pounds deal with DC United
On the day that England played Belgium, safe in the knowledge that they were through to the next round, former Three Lions star player Wayne Rooney was pictured on a flight to the US. He wasn’t simply heading over to the States to work on his tan, he was going to put pen to paper on the deal that sees him become a DC United player.
The rumours around Rooney’s desire to leave Everton started before the season had even ended. He had been caught on camera berating manager Sam Allardyce after he had subbed him in a game and it was clear he was not happy. However, when Allardyce was sacked and Marco Silva was appointed, it looked like Rooney might change his mind.
Rooney’s deal with DC United is worth £10m
The lure of a new lifestyle and the bump in salary DC United offered was obviously too attractive to turn down. Details of the Wayne Rooney DC United contract have emerged and he is on a deal worth £10m, the highest ever salary of a DC United player.

The transfer will see him follow in the footsteps of plenty of Premier League footballers who moved over to the MLS in the latter stages of their career. Former Manchester United team mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic moved to the LA Galaxy, the same team that Steven Gerrard chose to end his career with. Thierry Henry and David Beckham also made the switch over to the US in lucrative deals.
Wayne Rooney: DC United player
Rooney will now be looking to continue his habit of breaking records and at 32 he could still have a couple of great seasons left. Landon Donovan’s all-time record of 145 goals is probably going to be out of reach but the 27 goals in one season record could be the one he has his eye on. Former Manchester City player Bradley Wright-Phillips shares that record with two other players.
It will be interesting to see how Rooney does in the MLS, after a disappointing season at Everton by his own high standards but still managing to be the top goal-scorer there. Playing in a 20,000 capacity stadium will be a huge difference from the packed Old Trafford he once graced.
