Franck Ribery’s career is apparently coming to an end sooner than he would have liked.
Ribery is on the verge of ending his active career, according to media reports. The 39-year-old Frenchman’s knee problems are the reason, several Italian media reported on Friday.
The former winger of the German record champions Bayern Munich is currently still playing for the southern Italian first division club US Salernitana, but last appeared on the pitch in mid-August in the league match against AS Roma and left the pitch injured shortly before the final whistle.
Activity in Salerno?
But it’s not over for Ribery at Salerno. According to the reports, the once so nimble and dribble-strong outfielder could get a role at the club. In the last season, he saved himself with Salernitana a few matchdays before the end of the season in 17th place in Serie A and thus avoided relegation to the second division. Before that, Salerno had been in the relegation zone for months and was even in danger of being relegated due to an initially unsuccessful search for a new club owner.
Ribery played for Bayern Munich for the longest time from 2007 to 2019, before moving to Italy and initially to AC Florence. With the Munich team, he won the German championship several times, the DFB Cup and also won the Champions League with them in 2013. In 2006, he played in the final of the World Cup with the French national team, but the Equipe Tricolore lost 5-3 to Italy on penalties.
