“Realistic” dream target: Lakers probably have their sights set on star guard

The Los Angeles Lakers have apparently set their sights on Darius Garland of the Cleveland Cavaliers as a “realistic” desired target. Bleacher Report reports

According to the report, if Garland were to hit the market, the Lakers would offer their two available first-round picks and any players for the guard. However, since salaries would be difficult to match, another team would have to be involved in the deal, according to the report. For the Lakers, Garland would replace D’Angelo Russell, who is likely on the verge of retiring in Hollywood after a disappointing playoff run.

Ever since Donovan Mitchell’s extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers, trade rumors have been swirling around Garland, who at 6-foot-8 isn’t the best fit for the Cavs’ equally diminutive superstar.

Last season, Garland missed many games due to injury and struggled with fluctuations in form. His splits (18 points and 6.5 assists) were well below his figures from previous years.

The 24-year-old is still under contract until 2028, having signed a maximum rookie extension worth 193 million dollars in the summer of 2022.
