The South Korean Football Association (KFA) has lodged a complaint with FIFA following a racist remark made against Hee-Chan Hwang during a test match.
The reason for the complaint is an incident involving Hwang in his Wolverhampton Wanderers’ friendly against Serie A promotion contenders Como 1907 last Monday. During the match, an unnamed Italian player allegedly called the South Korean Hwang “Jackie Chan”, the famous actor from Hong Kong.
The KFA responded to the incident with an official complaint to FIFA. As the association announced on X, in a letter to FIFA it expressed its “serious concern about the racist acts that Chang had to suffer”. The association also called on FIFA to take action and “eradicate racism on the soccer pitch.”

Como denies the allegations. The player had “not made any derogatory comments”. The reaction of some Wolverhampton professionals had “blown the incident out of proportion”.
Hwang commented on his Instagram account. The coaching staff and teammates had told him that they would leave the pitch with him “if necessary”. However, Hwang wanted to continue playing. Racism is intolerable in sport and in all areas of life, the 28-year-old striker wrote further.
