VfB Stuttgart has already announced five new signings – and it won’t stop there. Depending on who leaves the traditional club, improvements will be made. One candidate for the attacking midfield could come from Belgium: Cameron Puertas from Royale Union St. Gilloise
Nick Woltemade (Werder Bremen), Yannik Keitel (SC Freiburg), Justin Diehl and Jeff Chabot (both 1. FC Köln) as well as Stefan Drljaca, who comes from Dynamo Dresden to take the place of the fourth goalkeeper, are already here. Further additions will follow as soon as it is clear who from the pool of VfB professionals courted, including Serhou Guirassy, Chris Führich, Waldemar Anton, Maximilian Mittelstädt and Angelo Stiller, will actually leave the club.
Like Guirassy, Führich and Anton, Enzo Millot also has an exit clause for a sum in excess of 20 million euros. The Frenchman could therefore also leave the Swabians without warning. However, there are no signs of this happening. Nevertheless – and not only just in case, but also in view of the width of the squad – a backup for the central attacking area is being sought for the season, which promises a high playing density
16 assists in the league
Cameron Puertas from Union St. Gilloise is also on the list of potential candidates. The intelligent midfielder, who is comfortable behind the striker, is a similar type to Millot. Last season in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League, the 25-year-old scored five goals and provided 16 assists in 30 games. He also played 12 international games, in which he was responsible for three goals and three assists. The Spaniard, who was born in Lausanne, Switzerland, left his mark not only on the Belgian champions, but on the entire league.
In his younger years, however, the playmaker also attracted negative attention in Switzerland. After driving without a license during the naturalization process, the proceedings were halted for the time being. Puertas may now obtain Swiss citizenship in 2025 at the earliest. The contract of the Belgian-by-choice still runs until the end of June 2025. Nevertheless, a double-digit transfer fee is being asked for him – if it really comes to fruition, which is currently not foreseeable.
