Freiburg had no chance in Dortmund on Friday evening and lost 3-0. In addition to the result, Sport-Club also had to accept the injury to Manuel Gulde. Coach Christian Streich at least gave the all-clear
With Matthias Ginter (Achilles tendon irritation), Daniel-Kofi Kyereh (recovery training after cruciate ligament rupture), Philipp Lienhart (groin surgery), Merlin Röhl (suspension), Max Rosenfelder (patellar tendinitis) and Kenneth Schmidt (abdominal muscle surgery), Freiburg were missing a number of players in Dortmund. The Sport-Club could therefore not do with any more injuries.
But there was just such an injury in the 21st minute: defender Manuel Gulde got stuck in the turf after a tackle on Dortmund’s Donyell Malen. It didn’t look good, the defender immediately received treatment on his right leg and had to be substituted shortly afterwards, Attila Szalai replacing him.
After the match, Christian Streich was able to give the all-clear, at least in part. “It doesn’t look too bad, fortunately,” the coach told DAZN and continued: “He heard it crack. As it looks now, we hope that the inner ligament is torn. We hope it’s not torn. We firmly believe it’s not a cruciate ligament tear. The injuries we have are enough. “
“Were not dangerous enough to score goals “
At the time of the injury, Freiburg were already 0:1 up. And the visitors didn’t really have a chance after that either. “We were in the game in the first half, but we had a few situations where we were able to cross but couldn’t finish dangerously. We made an individual mistake for the second goal and then it was difficult,” analyzed Streich. “There were phases in the game where I didn’t think it was too bad, but we lacked penetration going forward. In the end, we had no chance because we weren’t dangerous enough.”
And so, at the final whistle, the scoreboard showed a deserved and clear 3:0 for Borussia Dortmund. “Dortmund were simply too good for us because we didn’t reach our limits today. When the constellation is like that, we can’t win,” concluded Streich.
