Premier League match schedule: Hürzeler starts away, promoted Ipswich in bad luck

The Premier League has published the schedule for the 2024/25 season. Arsenal FC face a tough opening program, Fabian Hürzeler starts on Merseyside

The new Premier League season opens on August 16, a Friday evening, not with the champions. It’s cup winners Manchester United, who welcome Fulham FC to Old Trafford. Presumably still with coach Erik ten Hag. City’s rivals with Pep Guardiola, on the other hand, are away on Sunday on matchday 1 – at European Cup participants Chelsea FC, who are now coached by Enzo Maresca.

Liverpool FC are also known to be starting with a new head coach after nine years of Jürgen Klopp – the start could be trickier for Arne Slot. The Reds start with a visit to newly promoted Ipswich Town, who then face champions ManCity on matchday two. An enormously tough start

It’s going to be tough for Arsenal

Slot’s home debut a week later sees Brentford FC at Anfield Road, followed by Man United on matchday three. However, Arsenal FC have the toughest opening program of the three title contenders from the past season

After the still tolerable start at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Gunners have to face Champions League contenders Aston Villa, followed by a home game against Fabian Hürzeler’s Brighton (on matchday 1 at Everton FC). On matchday 4, the runners-up under the management of Mikel Arteta will face Spurs in the North London derby, followed by a top-of-the-table clash with Manchester City on matchday 5 (September 21/22).

The Sky Blues will later have to play at the Emirates on February 1 or 2 (matchday 24). The Liverpool vs. Man City clashes will take place on matchday 13 (November 30 or December 1 in Liverpool) and matchday 26 (February 22 or 23 in Manchester). That doesn’t smell like possible preliminary decisions in the championship race
