After it became clear that Jorge Martin will leave Pramac for Aprilia at the end of this MotoGP season, the Spaniard’s team bosses have words of praise for him
One day after the announcement that Jorge Martin will ride for Aprilia from 2025, the Pramac team has its first words of farewell for its current rider
Team Principal Paolo Campinoti says: “We have welcomed a talented rookie to our team and are now working with one of the strongest riders on the MotoGP grid.”
“The progress we have made together is incredible and we continue to focus on the goal we set ourselves at the end of last year. After the Valencia Grand Prix, we will say goodbye to Martin and wish him all the best for the future,” continued Campinoti.
“I am grateful and proud to be working with Jorge, one of the strongest and most talented riders I have ever met, added team manager Gino Borsoi.
“From now on, we will continue to do our best to achieve the maximum together,” he also emphasizes, “and remain focused on this season, which has started wonderfully. I hope that Jorge can enjoy the rest of the season with us now that he has decided on his future.”
After seven race weekends, Martin leads the overall standings by 18 points – ahead of his Ducati teammates Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez. The Pramac rider narrowly missed out on the title last year
Enea Bastianini’s goal back then was to join the Ducati factory team, but the Italian manufacturer held on to him. With Marquez’s switch to Gresini, another candidate for the position came into play this year.
Because Ducati did not commit to Martin at the Mugello weekend despite a positive initial contact, he canceled and decided to switch to Aprilia.
The Italian team announced the coup on Monday with an Instagram video in which Aleix Espargaro, who will retire at the end of 2024, handed over the baton to Martin. He himself has not yet commented in detail on the switch
