According to media reports from Portugal and Greece, Alkmaar’s Pavlidis is on the verge of joining Benfica Lisbon. The Greek went through the youth ranks at VfL Bochum and also spent a year at BVB
After an outstanding season for Evangelos Pavlidis in an AZ Alkmaar shirt, in which the burly center forward scored 33 goals in 46 appearances, the Greek’s move to Benfica is imminent. Pavlidis has already arrived in Lisbon for his medical check and will sign a five-year contract with the traditional Portuguese club. The club led by German coach Roger Schmidt will have to transfer 17 million euros to the Netherlands, and a further two million euros could be added as bonuses.
Pavlidis came through the youth ranks at VfL Bochum between 2015 and 2018 before spending a year with Borussia Dortmund’s second team. At the beginning of 2019, he finally made the move to Willem II in the Dutch Eredisivie. Pavlidis has now been with AZ for three years and has scored an impressive 65 goals in 165 league games.
The striker scored six times in 38 international matches for Hellas. He last played for the Greeks in the test against the DFB team in Mönchengladbach (1:2) shortly before the start of the European Championship
