OT thriller in Boston: Young and Hawks tame the Celtics

The Atlanta Hawks held their own against the Boston Celtics in an intense duel and put in a strong team performance. Trae Young and Dyson Daniels, in particular, were at the center of a game that went into overtime.

The Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics played a thrilling game that was only decided in overtime. Trae Young returned from injury and led Atlanta with 28 points and 11 assists. Young forced overtime with two free throws with 3.5 seconds left on the clock, after which Tatum missed a possible game-winner. In overtime, Dyson Daniels (23 points) made a crucial jumper and Okongwu (19 points, 13 rebounds, four blocks) added two free throws to secure the win for the Hawks.

Boston struggled in particular in offense. Jaylen Brown was the Celtics’ most effective player with 24 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, but neither he nor Jayson Tatum, who scored 23 points despite shoulder problems, was able to shine in the decisive moments. Tatum missed a potential game-winner at the end of regulation and an important three in overtime.

The Celtics were without their big men Al Horford (toe injury) and Kristaps Porzingis (strain). Luke Kornet took over the starting role and impressed with 17 points and seven rebounds in 31 minutes.

Atlanta dominated the game, especially in the zone, and won the points in the paint by a clear margin of 60:42. With a shooting percentage of 47.3, the team was also more efficient than the Celtics, who only managed 38.5 percent from the field. The loss shows that the Celtics, who have only an 8-8 record in their last 16 games, are still searching for their form.

NBA: The Celtics’ and Hawks’ remaining schedule

The Hawks face the New York Knicks on Monday, while the Celtics start their road trip on the West Coast against the Golden State Warriors.
