OpTic wins Halo Championship Series with a six-figure haul

This weekend, the Halo Championship Series ended with the grand final event in Orlando. In front of numerous spectators, OpTic kept its nerve and won the title in a commanding manner.

The organisation had already clearly underpinned its title claim in the group phase: four wins from four games meant the group victory and unchallenged entry into the Winners Bracket of the knockout phase, where the winning streak continued unabated.

Solid victory all the way to the final

First, OpTic gave Oxygen Esports no chance in the best-of-five and advanced to the next round with 3:0, before eUnited was also clearly dispatched with 3:1. In the final of the bracket, FaZe Clan was a big challenge, at least in terms of name. But even the most prominent opponent to date was powerless against the future champion: another 3:0 ensured entry into the Grand Final.

Cloud9 had also advanced to the Grand Final. The team had also made it to the Winners Bracket, but was unable to beat FaZe. In the double-elimination format, Cloud made the most of its second chance: 3:0 in the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the elimination bracket before the revenge with the FaZe Clan in the deciding match for the Grand Final. In this match, the organisation, which was founded back in 2013, retained the upper hand and prevailed 3:1.

Worlds already in mind

In the duel for the coveted trophy, however, OpTic left Cloud9 no chance. The best-of-seven was over after the fifth match, 4:1 in the end for OpTic, who could be happy about 140,000 US dollars in prize money from the total prize pool of 350,000 US dollars.

“I couldn’t be prouder of how far we’ve come and the resilience we showed all weekend,” Matt ‘FormaL’ Piper said via Twitter after the triumph. However, the season is not yet over for the HCS champion with this success. The World Championship starts at the end of October, which Tommy ‘Lucid’ Wilson is already looking forward to despite all the jubilation: “I can’t wait for the Worlds.”
