“Only 81!”: Lamine Yamal grumbles about his FC 25 rating

EA SPORTS revealed the new player ratings for FC 25 last week. Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal is not entirely happy with his rating

Lionel Messi had a 78, Cristiano Ronaldo an 80. The superstars started out in FIFA with rather modest ratings by today’s standards. But it didn’t take long for them to conquer the top spot – both in virtual and real soccer.

Although both icons are still on the pitch, times have long since changed. Players like Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland are now on the podium – and the next generation is already waiting in the wings. First and foremost Spain’s prodigy Lamine Yamal.

The 17-year-old has already demonstrated his exceptional skills for FC Barcelona and during the European Championships for Spain. Accordingly, there has been much speculation as to how EA SPORTS would assess them in its soccer simulation. Similar to Messi and Ronaldo back then – or will the youngster make it straight into the top 25?

Knackpunkte: Pace and dribbling

Although the attacking player trumps the debuts of both superstars, he doesn’t make it onto the aforementioned list. For Yamal, this is incomprehensible: EA SPORTS had given him “a bad card, only an 81! I would increase my pace – and my dribbling,” said the youngster on the Spanish TV show El Hormiguero. The developer and publisher estimates his pace and dribbling in FC 25 at 82.

His assessment is not entirely surprising, however. For the 2024 European Championship mode, EA SPORTS broke its rule and added the talent despite only being 16 years old at the time – and gave him an overall rating of 76. The upgrade of five points is moderate, as there were players who received significantly more plus points.

Nevertheless, Yamal will reach for the controller for FC 25, even though he is also interested in Football Manager. He’s just “not playing it because my friends are lazy. They only play for a week and then stop.” Incidentally, Barça’s shooting star is not alone in criticizing the rating: Leverkusen’s Alejandro Grimaldo was unable to understand one change in particular in his digital avatar
