Tennis player Jule Niemeier missed the semi-finals at the WTA tournament in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The 23-year-old from Dortmund lost in the round of the best eight against the Italian Jasmine Paolini with 5:7, 5:7.
Niemeier, who celebrated her international breakthrough this year at the Grand Slam tournaments in Wimbledon (quarter-finals) and at the US Open (last 16), hit seven aces but committed just as many double faults. Niemeier was the last remaining German in the tournament’s singles competition.
