Next departure at Alpine: Operations Director Rob White leaves

Alpine continues to tinker with its faltering Formula 1 team: long-time operations director Rob White has now left the racing team

The restructuring of the faltering Alpine team continues. As the French racing team confirmed on Friday, Alpine has ended its collaboration with Operations Director Rob White. “As part of the comprehensive operational restructuring of the team, we can confirm the departure of Rob White,” said a statement from Alpine.

“Rob was most recently Operations Director at Enstone. The team is grateful for Rob’s efforts during his long career at both Enstone and Viry-Chatillon, where he led the engine project to win the championship in 2005 and 2006. We wish him the best in his future endeavors,” the statement said.

White joined the team at Enstone in 2016 to lead the operational side of the racing team. He had previously worked in the engine department in Viry since 2004, where he was deputy managing director responsible for engines. White joined the French team from engine manufacturer Cosworth.

After 20 years, White’s time with the Renault Group team is now over. He joins a series of departures that Alpine has had to accept since the start of the season.

Head of engineering Matt Harman and head of aerodynamics Dirk de Beer had already left the team at the start of the season when it became clear that the new A524 would lack a lot of performance. As a result, team boss Bruno Famin announced a new management structure with three main pillars.

Joe Burnell (Engineering), David Wheater (Aerodynamics) and Ciaron Pilbeam (Performance) will take over the tasks of the two departures as Technical Directors. Above them, new Technical Director David Sanchez has been appointed, having left McLaren after just a few weeks following his move from Ferrari to Woking.

Alpine has just two points to its name after eight races and is in penultimate place in the overall standings. Esteban Ocon scored one point in Miami in tenth place, and Pierre Gasly did the same in Monaco at the weekend
