New menu in Rocket League: “Long-cherished wish of the community fulfilled”

With Season 13, the menu is being changed for the first time since Rocket League became free to play – both visually and in terms of its layout.

A fundamental change is on the horizon for the new season in Rocket League. Not in terms of gameplay, however, but in the menu. This is being revised for the first time since the game became free to play in 2020. The developer Psyonix announced this in a blog post

New design, new playlists

What immediately catches the eye is the design. The images for the individual sub-items of the game modes are still the same – but they have been scaled up and squared up. In addition to the visuals, Psyonix has also changed the layout. For example, “the competition playlists and the extra mode playlists are combined in a new competition map”. This “allows you to queue for up to six different competitive playlists at the same time”, writes the developer. This is intended to “fulfill a long-held wish of the community”, as you can now queue “for modes like 3v3 Standard and 2v2 Baskets” at the same time.

As part of these changes, “each season will alternate between Competitive Snow Day and Dropshot”. The game mode with puck instead of ball will be the start. The casual map has also been revised, including two new arcade playlists. These will rotate “weekly through extra modes such as Heatseeker, Spike Rush, Rocket Labs modes and more”. Dropshot and Competitive Snow Day “will also appear in the arcade rotation whenever one of the two modes is not active”. Along with these newcomers, “4v4 Chaos is evolving into a new Big Party playlist that alternates between 4v4 Chaos and Knockout on a weekly basis”.

Last but not least, there is one more improvement. In future, you will be able to “join an existing private match directly from training or an offline match”. It is not yet known exactly when Season 13 will start and the changes will take effect. Based on previous experience, however, the starting signal should be given on December 5 or 6
