Nakagami also takes a break in Australia: Nagashima steps in again

After another finger operation Takaaki Nakagami has to miss Phillip Island as well – Again Tetsuta Nagashima steps in as replacement at LCR-Honda

Takaaki Nakagami will also skip the Australian Grand Prix. The Japanese rider injured two fingers on his right hand in the first lap accident at the Aragon race. The ring finger and the little finger had to be operated on as a result.

Despite this, Nakagami subsequently took part in his home race at Motegi (Japan). However, he had to undergo another operation afterwards and therefore missed the Thai Grand Prix.

Now, on medical advice, it has been decided that it would be better for Nakagami to take another weekend off. The aim is to make a comeback at the Malaysian Grand Prix (23 October). To do so, Nakagami will have to pass another check by the doctors.

“After the Japanese Grand Prix I had another operation on both fingers. They are getting better day by day,” Nakagami reported. “However, it is still difficult to grip some objects. I feel okay and I don’t have any pain. “

“But the doctor has recommended that I rest for two more weeks. That’s why I’m missing Australia. Next Monday I have another check-up. At that time the stitches will be removed and it will be decided whether I can race in Malaysia.”

Just as in Thailand, Nakagami will be represented by Tetsuta Nagashima in Australia. Most recently in Buriram, the Japanese rider finished 22nd on the LCR Honda. After his wildcard in Japan, Phillip Island will be the third Grand Prix in a row for Nagashima.
