PSV Eindhoven suffered their third setback within a short time. Roger Schmidt’s team lost against AZ Alkmaar despite taking the lead. A former Bundesliga goalkeeper had his share.
Coach Roger Schmidt promoted three new players to the starting eleven after the 2-1 defeat in the top match against Ajax Amsterdam – in addition to ex-Bundesliga players Mvogo in goal and right-back Mwene also Sangaré. The Eredivisie runners-up also took the lead: Obispo put the ball in the net after a corner (19th).

Before the break, however, the Schmidt team had to concede the equaliser. Martins Indi scored a powerful goal to level the score at the break (40th). This was possible because the PSV defence had lost sight of him.

Götze, Doan and Co. were unable to make an impact on the offensive after the restart. Instead, Mvogo made a mistake in the goal in the final phase – Karlsson accepted the gift and scored (75.). PSV could not come back after that, despite a 1:0 lead, the next league match was lost. After coach Schmidt’s announcement to leave the club and the loss of the league lead, the next setback for Eindhoven.
Alkmaar remain unbeaten in their tenth league game in a row and in fifth place. PSV do not even temporarily jump to first place. Ajax Amsterdam could pull away to five points at the top of the table with a win on Sunday against Heracles Almelo (16.45).
