In the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday, Jorge Martin has to start from fifth instead of second on the grid – due to an offense in qualifying
Pramac Ducati rider Jorge Martin, who leads the 2024 MotoGP standings by 15 points from Francesco Bagnaia after his second place in the sprint at the Assen weekend, has been demoted to the back of the grid for Sunday’s Dutch Grand Prix
Instead of starting from second place on the grid, which he took in qualifying on Saturday morning and which he was also allowed to take for the sprint, Martin has to start Sunday’s Grand Prix from fifth place on the grid – and therefore from the second instead of the front row.
The reason for the demotion of three grid positions is an offense that Martin committed in the Q2 segment of qualifying. According to the race stewards, the Pramac Ducati rider was slow on the racing line in turns 2 and 3 and was in the way of Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse-Aprilia).
On the previous race weekend in Mugello, it was “Pecco” Bagnaia who had received a grid penalty of three places for the same reason. He was in the way of Alex Marquez (Gresini-Ducati) during practice on Friday. In the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday, Bagnaia had to start from P5 instead of P2, but still rode to victory
