Mick Schumacher has no interest in Formula E because the replacement driver for the Mercedes Formula 1 team likes “old-school” cars
Mick Schumacher in Formula E? That’s not going to happen any time soon. Quite simply because Michael Schumacher’s son doesn’t like the electric racing series very much.
In a video interview with the Italian portal Tutto Motori, Schumacher answers the question of whether he would like to try out a Formula E car one day: “I’ll be completely honest and say no. I like engines, I like petrol, I like gasoline. I like engines, I like gasoline, so definitely not that.”
“I like old-school cars, the V8, the smell, the flames, whatever,” Schumacher continues. “That’s what I’m interested in,” says Schumacher, rejecting Formula E.
Schumacher would not be the first driver to switch to Formula E after losing his Formula 1 cockpit. Fellow countrymen such as Nick Heidfeld and Pascal Wehrlein have also taken this step.
In 2023, Schumacher will be a reserve driver in the Mercedes Formula 1 team and without a race cockpit. This could change next year, as Schumacher is considered a candidate for a seat at Alpine in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). The 24-year-old has already completed a test in the French manufacturer’s LMDh car.
With a view to Formula E, however, Schumacher does not want to rule out the possibility that his attitude could change over the years. “Who knows what the future holds,” he says. “Who knows, if I drive it [Formula E], I might even change my attitude. “
