McLaren surprise! Timo Glock’s DTM comeback confirmed for the 2025 season

Timo Glock will make a comeback as a regular driver in 2025 after a three-year DTM break in the McLaren: Dörr squad wants to take “the next step” with the experienced driver

Big surprise at McLaren team Dörr Motorsport: The squad from Frankfurt has announced the signing of ex-Formula 1 driver Timo Glock for the second DTM season! This means that the driver from the Odenwald region, who already competed in the DTM from 2013 to 2021 when he was a BMW works driver, is making a comeback in the long-standing series after three years!

“I have never lost touch with DTM,” says Glock about the new challenge. “I think the project is very, very good and exciting. Dörr Motorsport wants to take the next step and I can help with my experience.”

Since Ben Dörr – the 19-year-old son of team owner Rainer Dörr – will also be driving the second McLaren 720S GT3 Evo in the coming season, it is clear that Clemens Schmid will no longer be competing for the McLaren team in 2025.

Glock: “Despite my 42 years, I still feel fully in the game”

It is not the first time that Glock has been mentioned in connection with the Dörr team. A year ago, the 42-year-old was already trying to get a seat with the newcomers, but was unable to get on the team due to a lack of sponsorship.

After that, the two agreed to work together. “I am supposed to play a central role in building the team,” he explains at bild.de. “Our goal is to consistently finish in the top 10 in this racing team’s second year. Maybe we’ll even make it onto the podium.”

His age is no obstacle in this regard: “I definitely feel I’m in my prime, despite being 42 years old now. There’s no doubt in my mind that I still have it in me. I’m completely convinced of that. And in Formula 1, a Fernando Alonso shows that it’s still possible at 43.”

The team is also pleased about the prominent newcomer. “We are very proud to welcome Timo Glock to our team,” says team owner Rainer Dörr. “I think a driver with such expertise and a career like his is a great asset not only for us as a team, but also for the DTM.”

Glock competed in a total of 91 Formula 1 races from 2004 to 2012, scoring three podium finishes in a Toyota. In his DTM career, he has achieved a total of five victories in 148 starts.

After being controversially let go by BMW at the end of 2021, Glock fought for the title in the Italian GT series in 2022 and made a guest start in the DTM in Imola in the Ceccato-BMW, before he was no longer part of the Munich-based team in 2023.

However, Glock remained active in motorsport and surprised with appearances in the popular DMV-BMW-318ti-Cup series, in the Porsche Supercup, as well as in the Porsche 911 GT3 R and in the BMW M4 GT4 at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Apart from that, he was a Formula 1 expert for the TV channel Sky. Now he has made a comeback in the DTM.

It will be interesting to see how the Dörr team, the only one to field the McLaren, will fare in its second year in the DTM. In the inaugural 2024 season, Schmid was in the front row at Zandvoort and finished fourth, but the team was mostly found in the back of the pack.
